SDGs in Action Forum
The UAE has been a dedicated advocate of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, introducing the ‘SDGs in Action’ platform at the World Government Summit. This initiative underscores the importance of global cooperation to achieve the 17 SDGs and acts as a catalyst for sharing best practices, laying future-oriented foundations, and forging bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
Since its launch in 2016, ‘SDGs in Action’ has driven innovation and progress toward the Global Goals. The platform has introduced key initiatives, such as the Global Councils on SDGs, an interdisciplinary network of leaders and youth. In recent years, it has also established Ministerial Round tables to discuss and shape the foundational work for future global development agendas beyond 2030.

The Global Councils on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were established at the World Governments Summit 2018. This interdisciplinary network includes decision-makers from governments, international organizations, academia, charitable organizations, and the private sector, collaborating on innovative projects and ideas to implement the 17 SDGs globally.
The Councils contribute to SDG Acceleration Actions, promoting SDG implementation worldwide by analyzing, conceptualizing, implementing, measuring impact, and reporting progress annually at the World Governments Summit.
The Council Chairs serve two-year terms, the 1st SDGs GC (2018-2020) and 2nd SDGs GC (2021-2023) have concluded, and the 3rd SDGs GC (2024-2026) will continue driving impact-driven projects worldwide, aligned with the Decade of Action.
Under the visionary leadership of President H.E. Ohood Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future and Vice-Chair of the World Governments Summit Organization, alongside Vice President H.E. Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange, the Global Councils are composed of a dynamic team representing all 17 SDGs. This network includes 18 Chairpersons and 19 Ministers from 18 countries, uniting diverse stakeholders, governments, private sector, academia, and civil society—to foster global partnerships and drive transformative sustainable development.
The XDGs 2045 initiative, launched at the SDGs in Action Forum during the 2023 World Governments Summit, is a forward thinking concept to shape the post-2030 sustainable agenda. Building on the legacy of the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals, it seeks to address emerging global challenges and opportunities by engaging diverse perspectives, fostering collaboration, and inspiring transformative innovations that can be embedded into the next global development agenda. It aspires to include all of society to truly engage and help shape the future of our world.
